Fun dog show and a 'snake'

What’s happened to the sun? And where has all this rain come from? I had to stay in bed all Tuesday morning it was so wet!

Anyway, back to my girlie week-end. I’m still not too sure what one is, but Mum and I had one last week-end. I think it means that Dad wasn’t around so me and Mum did things together. Saturday is worth a mention: in the morning we went over the Heath and when we got to my favourite bit of stream we met another staffie. He wasn’t very interested in me, but kept trying to dig underwater. I didn’t get the point personally, but he seemed to be enjoying himself. And then every now and then he would stick his head right under the water to pick something up. In the afternoon we went to the Country Park and I met another nice staffie in the car park. But we couldn’t really play as there were cars around. On the front lawn though I met a golden retriever that was the same age as me. We were let of the lead and had a good play with each other. I was very hot and worn out afterwards though, and had to lie in the shade for the next 10 minutes to recover.

On Sunday Mum took me to a fun dog show, which wasn’t really much fun. For a start the weather was a bit miserable. And there weren’t many people there as you can see.

And there was one very nasty lady who moaned at me and Mum cos we were watching the dogs practice their agility. Mum was telling me I was going to be doing this soon, so I could watch and see how it was done. Mind you, having seem how high the dogs had to jump I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do that. I can jump high, but not that high! Anyway, I don’t know where we were supposed to stand. Mum was standing and I was lying down at the edge of the arena.

Then there was the fact that not all of the dogs were friendly – some of them didn’t seem to like me and growled at me and tried to bite me – and all I wanted to do was say ‘Hello’. But I did meet some very friendly Weimerarmers. Mum took a photo of them for me.

On Monday I was very brave. I thought I’d found a snake in the garden, and so I barked and jumped about a lot, and tried to show Mum where it was. I got a bit nervous when she put her hand down and moved the plants to see what I’d found. I kept trying to push my nose in, but not too far in case I got bitten. Anyway, it turns out I hadn’t found a snake, but a HUGE caterpillar. Mum says it was the caterpillar of the Elephant Hawk Moth. But I can be forgiven for thinking it was a snake. Firstly it’s supposed to look like a snake. And secondly, Dad thought it was a snake when he saw it. So, this is what I found.

Today Mum took me down the beach this morning. I enjoyed being on the beach, but didn’t really feel like going in the sea. On the way home we went into Pets at Home and Mum bought me a really nice rawhide donut.

Mum’s just taken me out into the front garden to meet one of next door’s cats. But he was making a low rumbling noise in his throat and I got a bit scared. I don’t think he was being very friendly, so I didn’t get too close. Mum says I’m a big wuss. Now I’m waiting for Dad to take me out for a walk.

Hi Jez. Well that was surely an icky thing like I have never seen in my life! :p I would have thought it was a snake too. You were very brave to point it out.

Sorry the pet show was not so fun but glad you and Mum had some time together alone.

About that cat....sometimes they also scratch once they start making that noise, so protect you nose and eyes. I would hate to hear that you got hurt by a cat.

I hope you have a good weekend, Jez, and that the weather does not stay so very rainy.

its a good job it wasnt a snake jez, it might have swallowed you all up!

Cats are horrible, i would stay away from them! Their claws are so sharp they might get you.

I am glad you are having so much fun though, I wish i had so many adventures :)

Hi Audrey,

That caterpillar thing came back yesterday - I found it on the patio. I was a lot braver this time, and actually got close enough to sniff it before Mum took it away (she actually picked it up in her fingers - YUK!).

I don't fancy getting scratched my a cat - that's why I kept my distance. And anyway, if I did Mum would say I was even more of a big wuss!!

Kisses, Jez

Hi Kiri,

Oh no! Can snakes swallow me all up. I wouldn't like that. My duvet swallowed me up last night, but Mum came and rescued me. I was starting to panic there for a minute.

Have cats got sharper claws than me? If so I'll definitely stay away.

Kisses, Jez
